Original 20th Century-Fox One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, STATE FAIR (1945) directed by Walter Lang and starring Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, Vivian Blaine, and Dick Haymes. This was the only time that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote a score directly for film, having already had great Broadway successes with ÒOklahomaÓ and ÒCarousel.Ó They both won the Academy Award for Best Song for ÒIt Might As Well Be Spring.Ó Other favorite songs from the movie include ÒState FairÓ and ÒItÕs a Grand Night for Singing.Ó The film is a sweet (some may cry ÒcornyÓ) look at the tradition of the state fair put to music. It had all the ingredients for a happy post-war (released on August 29, 1945) romp through AmericanaÑclassic songs, winning performers, a simply story, and a happy ending. This original stone lithograph one sheet poster is linen-backed and in very good plus condition, with some signs of restoration. Presents nicely.
